Have you been victimized by the wrongdoings of social media? Teenagers have developed an addiction to social media. They feel lonelier than they ever have before, which leads to them having lots of social anxiety.

    1. the hook attracted me because after the first sentence I started to think of moments of the wrongdoings of social media and how it could lead to problems like anxiety which I never really thought of.

This hook attracted me because I really thought about the negative effects social media has had on my life. Increased social media use has caused me to feel somewhat lonely, depressed, and caused an increase in anxiety for me.

  2. Kain Colter, Quarterback at NorthWestern University had an aspiration to complete his pre-med major and become a doctor until he was advised by the staff of the University to drop his major. They believed the major’s class requirements were too hard and that if he did not drop it, that it would take up the time that should be dedicated to football.

    1. The hook was amazingly inspiring for a professional quarterback to complete his major and become a doctor to help him drop his major. And the people believing that is was too hard for him was the cherry on top.

Did you know that male soccer players sometimes make over 100 times more than what female soccer players make? The top paid male soccer player in the world, Leonel Messi, made $141 million in 2019 while the top paid female soccer player, Carli Lloyd, made only $519,000. Women are paid less despite having just as much skill as men have and bring in just as many views to broadcasting companies as men's soccer. Men and women in soccer should be paid the same.

The hook does a good job to make someone want to read what you wrote. The topic of different pay between male and female soccer players is very interesting.

    2. The statistics used in the hook caught my attention because the pay difference between the two players is extremely significant. After doing the math, Messi made about 271 times the amount of Lloyd yet she makes half a million.

First responders around the country are always helping others, but now they need our help.Being a first responder is a very difficult and dangerous job. They do and see things that no other person would want to and this causes severe mental illness. 37% of firefighters deal with PTSD and 29% deal with substance abuse. Police officers are 5 times more likely to develop PTSD than the general population. EMS personnel have constant exposure to trauma, life threatening situations that negatively affect their mental health and increases the risk of PTSD and substance abuse.

You walk into a classroom and the first thing you see all the students looking down at their desks on their iPads. Instead of the teacher verbally teaching, she/he is making the student watch YouTube videos for the lesson of the day. That is how schools are now teaching their curriculum in the year 2020.

Did you know the school systems are failing to properly educate students for real-world situations and careers? Especially the fact is that teachers’ unions have political agendas that only positively impacts the teachers and causes students to be dumbed down and has been causing decreases in graduation rates and test score. It has had a huge effect especially on inner city schools because they are already a part of an already marginalized community because of how socially and economically separate they are. Students need to be prioritized and be taught the basic skills in order to be successful in their futures.

Have you ever realized how difficult it is to get a job in the engineering field in modern day due to high technology and machines? Back in the day it was still difficult to get a spot in the engineering field but not as difficult as it is in modern day. The tasks needed be completed can absolutely be done by humans with the proper skills and knowledge but if machines keep on being made for specific tasks almost every person will eventually lose their job. For the use of machines and high technology is more harmful to people than helping them with their own jobs.

In India, only 4 out of every 10 people living in poverty attend college after high school. Poverty has an effect on a child's college readiness in a number of ways, including health and home life. Children from low-income families are often denied stimulation, and their financial situation has a negative impact on the country's literacy rate.

This hook was amazing because todays education system is falling to prepare students for the real-world situations. I have read in the newspaper that 'The name of the dog is Puppy'. This seems like a simple sentence. But in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, three out of four third grade students do not understand it? In rural India, nearly three-quarters of third graders cannot solve a two-digit subtraction problem such as 46 minus 17, and by grade five — half still cannot do so.

This also means that only 40% of seats are available under merit. In the merit seats, not only the general category candidates but all other categories like SC, ST, OBC, and EWS can also compete.
